  • Technical center for experimentation in fruit, vegetables and ornamental horticulture, the Réunion Association for the Modernization of the Fruit, Vegetable and Horticultural Economy (ARMEFLHOR) is responsible for implementing an experimental program meeting the expectations of 150 farmers members of the center from Reunion. The topics addressed relate mainly to the reduction of production costs and the arduousness of the work, the widening of the varietal range, the development of reasoned production, the improvement of the technical itinerary and the problems linked to the post- harvest and product quality.

    The administrative center is based in Saint-Pierre, but the work is carried out on the whole island at the farmers' premises by a team of around thirty people (engineers, technicians and workers).

    Assignment

    The armeflhor missions are as follows:

    Study the technical, economic and human problems related to the development and progress of the fruit, market gardening and horticultural sectors in Reunion;

    • Develop and implement the experiments necessary for professionals;
    • Monitor the smooth running of the experimental programs;
    • Coordinate the activity of the various organizations which will intervene within the framework of these programs and propose all useful measures for this purpose;
    • Transfer and disseminate the results and solutions obtained;
    • Provide vocational training to farmers, employees and agricultural technicians;
    • Provide expertise on fruit, vegetable and horticultural production in Reunion and more broadly within the framework of cooperation or partnerships;
    • Develop regional, inter-dom, national and international cooperation.
