Key words
  • UMR PVBMT was created in 2003 by the merger of two host teams from the University of Réunion and four CIRAD teams belonging to four CIRAD departments. Scientific activity was organized into four areas of research from 2003 to 2009 and the workforce was divided into five teams. For the current five-year 2015-2020 contract, the UMR PVBMT has been renewed, still under the dual supervision of the University of Réunion and CIRAD. Since January 2016, INRA has been associated with UMR PVBMT in the form of a USC (Unit under Contract). The UMR PVBMT is structured into three teams working on the following themes:

    • Genomics and epidemiology of emerging pathogens
    • Diversity and sustainable use of plant genetic resources in the tropics
    • Ecological dynamics in an island environment

UMR PVBMT is located in Réunion, at the Plant Protection Center (3P) in Saint-Pierre, where the majority of permanent and non-permanent staff are present. Part of the university staff is still located on the Moufia Campus at the Faculty of Science and Technology, where the undergraduate biology lessons are taught. The UMR PVBMT carries the BEST-T course (Biodiversity and Tropical Terrestrial Ecosystems) of the Master BEE (Biodiversity, Ecology, Evolution).
